About This Event
Musical Style: Jazz, funk, neo-soul Sam Hall and Baz Gillen are up and coming musicians on the Denver scene. Growing up in Denver, Baz has been playing around town since his teenage days while Sam moved to Denver 4 years ago to pursue a degree at the University of Denver. Baz and Sam met 2 years ago and have been honing their talent playing at local clubs around town. Finally, Sam and Baz are making their joint band leading debut on the Dazzle Stage. Sam Hall - Tenor Sax Micah Miller - Trumpet Killian Bertsch - Keys Jake Alvarez- Guitar Wyatt Walker Wear - Bass Baz Gillen - Drums Butcher Brown is a Richmond, Virginia based jazz quintet that DownBeat has characterized as a “70s jazz-funk fusion throwback”. The band, featuring Marcus Tenney (trumpet and saxophone), Morgan Burrs (guitar), Corey Fonville (percussion), Andrew Randazzo (bass), and DJ Harrison (keyboards) take inspiration from the past and the present, artists like D’Angelo, the Headhunters, the Miles Davis Second Quintet, Return to Forever, the Robert Glasper Experiment, the Roots, Spyro Gyra, and Weather Report. National Public Radio says “they scoff at the limitations of adjacent genres with the expertise of master musicians who’ve played together so long that they flow from one vibe to the next without missing a beat. They tour the world with their brand of jazz, rock, funk, R&B, soul and rap. They can also be heard playing the theme song for Monday Night Football, a cover of Little Richard’s “Rip it up” Support: Playing the Music of Butcher Brown
