Musical Style: Big Band Jazz The Award Winning Arapahoe College Jazz Bands! The Arapahoe Community College Jazz Big Band, directed by Doug Tidaback (trombone), performs the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and more. Joined by the Arapahoe Community College Jazz Combo performing the music of Pharaoh Sanders, Raul DeSouza, and others, the evening promises to be a smorgasbord of jazz styles with something for everyone. Doug Tidaback has performed with Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, The Temptations, Diane Schuur, Linda Ronstadt, and many others. Locally, Mr. Tidaback performs with The Symphony of the Rockies and The Colorado Nighthawks. His groups have toured Europe six times, Asia twice, and have won awards at the Essentially Ellington Competition at Lincoln Center in New York, the Next Generation Jazz Festival, the Fullerton College Jazz Festival, and many others. Opening the evening will be the Colorado Jazz Ambassadors Big Band! During the concert, the Colorado Jazz Ambassadors will formally announce that they have been selected to perform at the upcoming Jazz Education Network Conference in Louisville ; a prestigious honor that recognizes the ensemble among the nation's outstanding youth jazz programs. The award-winning Colorado Jazz Ambassadors Big Band is made up of many of the finest high school and middle school musicians from the greater Denver area. Directed by renowned music educator Stoney Black and Arapahoe Community College Jazz Bands director Doug Tidaback, they have performed in New Orleans at the Jazz History Museum, in Las Vegas at the Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival where they won the prestigious Spirit of Duke Ellington Award, and have been featured at the Evergreen Jazz Festival. They perform the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and more. The August 10 concert will also feature special guest Greg Gisbert, appearing fresh off a tour with the acclaimed Maria Schneider Orchestra.
